Esso Poetry Open Mic

Join Phoenix poets, writers, performers, and listeners for the Esso Poetry Open Mic, a recurring community poetry night at Esso Coffeehouse & Roastery in Phoenix, Arizona.

Held on the third Sunday of every month, the Esso Poetry Open Mic provides an open and supportive space for local voices to share poetry, spoken word, music, and other creative work in front of a live audience.

Whether you're an experienced performer, working on a new poem, or thinking about stepping up to the microphone for the first time, you're welcome to participate. You can also simply grab a coffee, find a seat, and enjoy an evening of work from writers and performers throughout the Phoenix creative community.

Want to Perform?

Sign-ups begin around 4:45 p.m., shortly before the open mic starts at 5 p.m.

Readers are generally given up to five minutes at the microphone, giving everyone an opportunity to share while keeping the evening moving.

Bring something you've been polishing for months, something you wrote this afternoon, or a piece you're ready to try in front of an audience.

Not Ready for the Mic?

That's completely fine.

Open mics need listeners as much as they need performers. Come discover local poets, hear new work, meet other writers, and support Phoenix's spoken word and literary community.
